This Software Engineering Manager in the GroupWise/Mobility team will determine the current and future needs of the Novell DataSynchronizer project, the GroupWise project and Novell Conferencing project. They will also provide strategic direction for the team, ensure that tactical activities are running efficiently, and ensure that internal and external customer needs are addressed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
People Management
- Provides direction, makes assignments, and ensures on-time completion of assignments.
- Works closely with Product Management and Product Marketing to help set strategic direction for the product and partners
- Provides performance management, coaching, and assistance to team members for development of professional skills.
Customer Service
- Effectively works with internal customers and team members to define and meet project requirements.
- Facilitates team involvement in gathering and understanding customer requirements and feedback.
- Defines and measures engineering quality.
- Serves as a liaison between partners, functional areas, and customers, reconciling conflicting points of view, balancing the needs and desires of the individual area with Novell’s best interests, while maintaining effective working relationships.
Tactical and Strategic Direction
- Effectively focuses the efforts of the engineering team to build and foster the GroupWise project as well as other projects necessary for its success
- Contributes to team and department initiatives and projects.
- Understands the industry, in the assigned area of expertise, and looks to contribute to the industry.
- Develops detailed tactical plans that clearly deliver upon the strategic goals of the department while best meeting the needs of both internal and external customers.
- Identifies problems and concerns and utilizes independent judgment to identify solutions or action plans to resolve the issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in CS, IS, EE, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, freely, and concisely to influence, negotiate, and convince.
- Excellent team player.
- Ability to handle difficult or political situations while maintaining poise and professionalism.
- Ability and willingness to aggregate, analyze, and synthesize input from technical and business resources to draw clear conclusions.
- Strong leadership ability, confident, resilient, persistent, and solutions-oriented.
Preferred Skills:
- Engineering Management degree or equivalent experience
