The Software Developer is responsible for high level design and implementation of online content technology solutions; providing expertise and leadership for internal and external exam developers; identifying and designing solutions/tools to improve process; Member of dynamic, fast-paced, innovative team.

This is a key position in the Content Technologies team. The Software Developer serves as the Content Technologies team’s internal expert in all online content technologies – developing solutions, tools, processes, training and expert support for numerous content development teams and projects. The Software Developer also leads the content team’s integration initiatives with clients and other technology departments.


Implement & Perform
– Implement designs following Pearson coding standards and industry best practices
– Maintain and support mission critical applications as necessary
– Maintain and grow proprietary software

Analyze & Design
– Ensure business and requirements artifacts are created that effectively model the customer’s requirements
– Identify ways to automate processes

Process Management
– Participate in group improvement activities and initiatives to improve process and product quality in pursuit of excellence
– Complete project documentation as required, including logging status, risk, progress, and effort on assigned work
– Participate in and lead requirement, design and code reviews

Exam Production
– Lead teams of developers for larger scale exam development projects;
– Provide expert consultation and troubleshooting support services to exam development teams
– Work closely with other teams (e.g., QA, configuration management, end users) to release high quality software
– Create testable requirements and write and execute unit tests


Education and Experience:
– 3+ years minimum experience with HTML/CSS and JavaScript (HTML5 and CSS3 preferred)
– BA in Computer Science or related field or equivalent in work experience.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
– Expert in JavaScript and client-side Web technologies
– Familiarity with popular JavaScript technologies (AJAX, jQuery, AngularJS, etc.)
– Strong UI and interaction design skills
– Custom component/widget development (especially with jQuery or AngularJS)
– Large-scale Rich Internet Application development experience
– Event-driven programming models
– Experience with MVC (model-view-controller) architecture
– Knowledge of data binding and dependency injection programming concepts
– Understanding of Web standards, browser capabilities, and best practices
– SQL experience required
– Experience with Adobe Flex preferred
– Experience with .NET, C# preferred
