The Beauty of 1.0

[Image]A few months ago, a friend reminded me of “The Beauty of 1.0″… or the idea of just jumping out there and trying. Who cares if you mess it up?

For a while I’ve been unfocused or, euphemistically “wide-lensed”, and really “sponging” up information.  My number of twitter followees is out of control and the amount of information flooding into my various inboxes reminds me of Seattle’s recent deluge.  It turns out that waiting for the right moment, the right idea, the right thing may have actually undermined my ability to do something… anything.

Las Vegas StripThe fascination, though, with all this is the kindof standing in Time’s Square for the first time, or a 15 year old boy walking down the Las Vegas Strip wondering if his hormones had died and gone to heaven.  At the end of the day, I LOVE THE BLINKING LIGHTS and the infomercial-sized conversations and information that stream across my attention plane each day… but I have allowed my fasicnation with them to interrupt my execution of the things I need to do.

No longer!

  • P.S. I have received a lot of notes from people saying "hey, that image in your post isn't working."

Thanks for the notes, I do appreciate it. BUT, that image is exactly there for that purpose. It IS working. It's supposed to "look" bork'd. :)

    It's 1.0... we're working on it.
  • Great post, Rob! I know exactly what you mean.

I'm going to blog on this later today (I would have yesterday if the dang Bad Behavior plugin hadn't blocked me from my own site!), but my goal is to get a lot of my projects to the "1.0" stage BEFORE the New Year, so I can start 2008 with a real productive bang.
